I am looking for a repair manual for my outboard. 1989 28HP Johnson I was told that Seloc manuals were very good, so I purchased one from this site. The problem is that the book(1302) says it covers Jonnyrudes 1971-1989 1.25HP - 60HP, but in no part of the manual does it mention the 28 HP. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Repair Manual

The 28 is probably the same as the 30. Just a guess though.

Re: Repair Manual

I have the Clymers manual for a Merc and have found that it is somewhat "generic" in its content. There are errors and ommissions and at times very limited detail. Best to get the factory service manuals as I have learned and done.

Re: Repair Manual

If you are going to fuss with motors get the OMC manual specific for you motor. It eliminates the guess work.

Re: Repair Manual

I know that is what I don't understand. They have a picture of a rude 28 on the cover, but in the manual it doesn't have any 28 info johnson or evinrude. What size would this engine be similar to? 25 - 30

Re: Repair Manual

I see a factory manual in your future mrloring. If your motor is not specifically covered in the Solec then you will be second guessing everything you do.

Re: Repair Manual

The 28 SPL has the 30hp's engine. It's midsection was unlike anything else in the lineup I think, except maybe the early 80's 25hp lower. Hopefully someone else can confirm the l/u part.

You can get reprints from the following online retailers:<br />TheOutboardWizard<br />Mastertech<br />Marine Engine<br />Ken Cook <br />Also, I see an '89 on ebay right now, but it's not much of a savings:<br />28hp Manuals, click here. <br /><br />I personally & generally like Selocs over Clymers, but I like factory ones even better. Having both may help since Seloc often suggests alternatives to factory tools and jigs, and common problem areas. But then again you can get the same info from iboats.<br />The factory 'PARTS' manuals show exploded views of engine parts as well as P/Ns, but since you can now get that stuff online they're pretty useless.

Re: Repair Manual

Uhh, I really hate to directly link one of Iboat's competetors. So JB and Mods my feelings won't be hurt if you edit this out:<br />www ishopmarine com/ishop/jsp/AsplIsmHomeCcat.jsp?reqFor=29<br />I'll leave it to you folks to put the dots in. Hey, maybe it's alright if we just abuse their bandwidth?
