My pull string broke on my '77 35hp evinrude and now it seems as though my spring has come loose. It will wind up to a certain point but then it seems like the spring comes loose and won't hold. Do I need to change the spring or can I take it apart and reconnect the spring and hope for the best? Any tricks to doing such a thing?

Change the spring. Be sure to wear eye and hand protection. It can bite like a rattlesnake if it gets away from you.
