repairing stringer with glass?

I have a 81 Mark twain with a hallow stringer the engine mount sits on. The shell is still there and I was wondering if I could plug out a few holes along the top and fill it with epoxy resin, let it cure and harden then remount my engine? The reason I ask is cause the floor is so solid and the interior is so nice plus the cost of ripping everything out to do it right I think I'd rather part it out if you all don't think my idea would work. Is the stringer hollow because it was made hollow or did the original wood stringer rot away from inside?

Either way, I wouldn't think solid epoxy would work. I'm pretty sure the strength in an epoxy/cloth lay up is from the cloth, in combination with just enough epoxy to wet it out. A solid epoxy stringer would probably be heavy, brittle, and expensive.

You have access to Donald Trump's bank account??? Filling it resin will not work. Now you can cut the top open, bed in a stringer and then fiberglass it all together.

Just think about this ....... 1 gallon of resin equals 231 cubic inches if you had to fill a void that was 5 feet long (60") and the gap was 2"high x 2" deep it would require over 1 gallon. Now do some research on what a single gallon of resin is (polyester or epoxy)...... It will break your bank account

if its missin the wood, you have got some problems. time to tear out the floor, or donate the boat to me and i will do it!!

If you want to fill the stringer, seacast might be your best option, check out there website, I think its what you are looking for.

Allot of good advise on this website. I can take some pictures of the stringer when I get back to were it is this week. I'll try to upload some pictures of the boat to maybe help determin if the cost of this is worth it.

WOW, I just watched a video on u tube repairing a transom with seacast. That looks awsome. I think thats exactly what I need. I'm going to check into it.

To answere Ken's question, I don't think it was built hallow cause you take the hammer to the port side and it sounds real solid.
