the only negative for the better rat trap is 1 water evaporates,or 2, water freezes and the rat will jump out of the trap!
a few poison blocks and a pail of water will catch a bucket full too when they get thirsty.

I had a problem with mice in my r/v over last winter, I put out poison blocks and filled the toilet with r/v antifreeze and left the seat up, sure enough the little critter ate the poison and then comitted suicide in the toilet.

I would not use antifreeze to kill pests, you might kill neighborhood pets as well. Also, the pests may die in your boat and be difficult to find and dispose of. The original question was how to repell mice. Mothballs seem to work for me, I place them in containers in each part of the boat including the engine compartment. Other suggestions have been offered, some serious, some otherwise.

To kill mice, traps and poisons are available at the local home center that will do the job effectively with a minimal chance of harming pets and humans.

Remove anything from the boat that might be attractive to mice such as food and nesting materials.
