Replaced gimbal bearing but have one question.

I want to make sure, before I attempt to put the outdrive back one that I do indeed need an alignment tool for the new gimbal bearing? I noticed the whole bearing floated in the outer retainer and the outer race of the bearing itself has a radius to it. The old bearing came out nice and easy and the new one went in very easily as well. Grease went in without a hitch and I'm ready to put the drive back on. So, am I correct that I need the tool and the bearing is NOT self aligning?

Re: Replaced gimbal bearing but have one question.

You need the tool to check the alignment.

After installing a new gimbal bearing you stick the alignment bar in and not too hard smack it on each side (top bottom left right) and it will center the gimbal bearing.

Best to check the alignment anyways while the drive is off.
