I have bought myself a dud... 3 times on the water and it is tough to go into gear.. Then knocks every 5-10 seconds..

My ID # is OE251535 Model # HO 7541 It is a 75 horse power OB, Force. regular shaft.

I have come across a motor being parted out, and understand it is sometimes cheaper to buy another lower unit then have gears pulled and replaced... The info I have on the motor being parted is from a....... Force 70hp 1991-1995 serial number 0E006992.....

I have looked on ebay and randon interent searches... But not sure what I should be looking for? any suggested where I can find exact list of matches would be great.. For example...does it have to all be 75 hp.. can it be a 50 hp or even a 40 hp foot? Can it be a 90 hp? What am I looking for... The serial number tot he motor or the size and year,etc..

Thanks for any help. I am in SC.. if anyone has any local suggestions, I could use the help. Thanks

Re: Replacing 1997 75 hp lower. What models can I use?

Looks like the only ones that will direct fit is the 96/97

The 40/50 might fit but way wrong gearing.

Sounds like the clutch dog is bad??
Easy fix.
Take the lower apart and check the dog and forward gear.
They can be machined to work.
Or maybe just turn it around???

Post pics of the parts???

Re: Replacing 1997 75 hp lower. What models can I use?

Thanks Jerry.

I have heard different answers. Is there a known source or cross reference that I can look up this information? I had someone in Ga, say he had a 93 lower unit that would fit.. Of course he was tryiing to sell it..

The boat is at the lake, still in the water. My mechanic said by tuime he pulled thelower unit and had gears resurfaced, if it was able to be resurfaced, then replaced, the price was getting around $1200 or so.. and I see remanufatured units for this price range.. That is why I was hopiing to find a lower unit, no issues and trade out..

Thanks again.

Don't know how mechanical you are but it can be done with a dremel tool.

Where you located? Profile? Location?
You might be close to someone who can help.

Your mechanic sounds expensive???
I do that job a lot cheaper.
Depending on seals and what needs to be done.
Just a new clutch dog and oil. Around$500???Maybe less??

Re: Replacing 1997 75 hp lower. What models can I use?

My boat is in Santee SC.. The Manning side of the lake. Off of i-95.. My mechanic is retired and does work at is house. Usually pretty good, but has always been a little high? I think he was being honest,. He did say it could be just having the gear retooled, but said there are no guarantee's and said the typical generic answer.. he wouldn't know until he pulled it apart, etc...

I don't know enough about motors to pull it off, etc.. I am sure if I saw it done once, then I would be OK.. but I am not a mechanic.

Re: Replacing 1997 75 hp lower. What models can I use?

Ok .. I found what appears to be match.. But I dcan't tell by myself..

The found motor is The serial # is OE3156633, the Model# is H-075412UD The year it was sold was June 1997

My Model Number is # OE251535 Model # HO 7541 This came off the Title. I am not sure about the (UD) part.

If someone can help me know what I am looking for. am I trying to match ID Numbers or Model Numbers? and what is the difference in my model number and the longer model number that is on the motor that I found. thanks again for any help.

Re: Replacing 1997 75 hp lower. What models can I use?

Thanks Jerry I will have to wait to post pictures of my unit..its at the lake house..I will go down next week mto get them... But my concern is that even though it says it was sold in 1997 .. When I put in the ID number, it shows up as a 1998 year.? I know pictures will help..

Here is an answer i received from another motor that I was looking at to buy... Quote " Message Thursday, October 25, 2012 12:04 PM Force engines didn't change much after 1990 since they were due to being discontinued in 99. This unit will bolt on as is. Thanks.

This was his first response. from person sayion g it will fit.. model# 708f91b, serial# 016308. This engine is a little older than yours, but the gearcases are the same. . This unit shifts and rotates smoothly and the gearlube was perfect (no water or metal debris). Splines are good and shafts are straight.

I guess my concern is, I am guessing it will bolt right on, but does it affect the gears, performance, etc.. thnaks again for your help... Ill send pictures next week..
