replacing 92 starcraft i/o w 77 228 mercruiser

i've read some of your postings about replacing a 228 with a larger engine, but could one put a smaller engine in a slightly larger boat??? I have an old 77 marktwain 19 foot w a good motor , i/o 228, 305; I wonder would it be able to fit inside a 92 22 foot starcraft islander i/o that has a bad motor; would that be ridicluous...could the lighter aluminum boat handle ok w the smaller motor, from a v hull fiberglass boat ??Leigh

No reason not, might have to change out the flywheel, and coupler is all.

Let us know how it goes.

unknown motor size in 92 starcraft...I know some have a 460, need to find out...let you'all know soon...
