I am getting tired of replacing bunk carpet because the sun ruins it. My bunks are 2x8 13ft long and mounted vertically. I was thinking of replacing the bunks with Trex decking boards. This way i will not have to use bunkslides and or carpet. Any suggestion.

Trex sags a lot and will probably require more support than you've got now. If you can properly support it, Trex with maybe those plastic bunk slicks mounted on them should work well I'd think.

Glad you're able to get your boat off the trailer often enough to have the sun ruin your bunks!!! :D

Your bunks are vertical? You must have some long tiedowns! Just giving you a hard time; I know what you mean. Using composite decking material will be fine but won't eliminate the need for some kind of padding. If you want to get away from carpet I think there are alternatives available that are designed for that purpose. Bunk slicks come to mind, and I'm sure Google would reveal other options.

IMHO Trex is too flexible tobe used as bunk boards. I used to sell the stuff. Hold a long piece of Trex in the middle and watch how much it sags at the ends under it's own weight compared to dimentional lumber. I would just replace them with treated lumber and recarpet.

Bungie a tarp over the trailer while its sitting out in the sun, cheap easy and quick... I wouldnt trust trex unless its supported really well, like really well and then there is the issue of finding it in a 2X8...

How ofter do you need to replace the carpet? indoor-outdoor carpet is made to be in ultraviolet light. I am surprized it doesn't last at least a decade. I replace the I-O carpet in my boat, however, it is never sun-damaged, just dirty and worn out...

Maybe you live in one of those places where the ozone is depleted?

yeah I was thinking that GOOD outdoor carpet should last 10-20 years... well in the sun anyhow.... I generally wear mine out or tear it somehow much sooner than that but more and better rollers should help that
