I just bought an old 1988 chris craft with a newer engine that is about 8-10 years old Merc 350 I/O. As typical boat owning goes, my throttle was a little weary and sure enough after about three weeks in the water, the throttle gave out. I removed it to see that the threads of the throttle were completely stripped. I'm guessing the throttle is as old as the boat, so it does not come as a complete surprise. I'm expecting to get a new one in on Tuesday and was planning on replacing it myself.
I'm not new to boats and am fairly handy with a tool kit. But I have never replaced a throttle. Are there any special tricks or gotchas that I should be aware of? I assume the trickiest part will be attaching the cables. Thoughts, suggestions, any advice in places I might want to read from? Any help would be appreciated.
