I was able to successfully replace the lower motor mount. I found a good video to help replace the hard one in the middle below the powerhead.. The one two on the side of the lower cowling I am not quite sure how to replace. Anyone have a link to a video?

You should post the video of how to do the front one for others to see.

Yes, rear ones are tough...I know of no videos on the rear, hopefully someone has one.

Gee, which motor is that?

I have replaced the upper motor mounts on my mercury OB, but not on my Johnny. On the Merc, the upper motor mount is sandwiched between the exhaust extension under the powerhead and the midsection. You need to pull the powerhead, and then remove some small bolts holding the exhaust extension to the midsection to get to it.

The parts list for the Johnny OB does not show how the motor mount goes in, but I would expect it to be similar to the Merc, as the designs (V6 Merc, V6 Johnson) are nearly the same.

Hang the motor by the powerhead. Take nut off of Center upper motor mount. Loosen the 2 side motor mount nuts. Then slide the bracket forward and remove. If it is a tiller the throttle cable and the kill switch wires need to be disconnected.

Gentleman I know that had been working on these motors for many years said $160 labor to replace them. I’d say money well spent.

Agreed, pia job.

I didn't really understand what the second guy was going to do. Is that his way of getting the upper side motor mounts without removing the mid section tilt/steer assembly?

If so, seems like a hack not worth doing.

these were the best videos I found. Can’t say any of them were overly helpful after watching them a few times through. Motor mount replacement be an outstanding video for someone to make

Agreed. Aren't you a mid West guy?

Seems like you were but I believe anyone in a cold climate can increase their boat use if they convert to this....

Enjoy.

I’m trying to get YouTube to load this video. Went out and recorded the motor mounts on my outboard being replaced: they were completely shot. Ed the guy that works on them did exactly what flying Scott posted above.

There is almost always an easier way you just need to be in the know. I once wrestled an ac compressor in a truck for a 1/2hr trying to find a way out with removing a bunch of other stuff.
I took a break and it fell out on its own so then I had to find that path. Luckily I did 😂
