Does anyone have any opinions on what product is the most user freindly to operate of the major products, Raymarine, Furuno, JRC, SIMRAD, Si-Tek.

My Raytheon CRT display was water damaged and I will be replacing the whole system. I'm looking for 4kw power, 7" display, with 24" antenea. All opinions are welcome... Since this will be an insureance replacement, I dont think I will be getting built in chart plotting or a multifunction type display system.

Thanks in advance...
Paul

Re: Replacing my Radar unit

From the ones you listed, Simrad is the best product. It also has a bigger learning curve...and bigger price tag. And if you get Simrad, there is no going back to RayMarine, Furuno, Garmin, etc.

If you peruse the various boating forums on the internet, the one thing you won’t often find, if at all (I can’t recall ever seeing it) is someone post about problems with Simrad equipment or Simrad’s support. Both are excellent. The stuff is extremely well built, rock solid software.

Fwiw, stay well clear of Garmin’s radar. They are having on-going problems. Some people a reporting excellent results, others can never get the thing to work right, others can never get it to work at all.

Re: Replacing my Radar unit

I have had Raymarine Radar and can't say that it is great from user interface point of view unless you get the overlay support for your GPS mapping unit. Then it is much more intuitive to use. I find the automatic tuning modes to not be very adaptive although adequate in operation.

The main reason to buy a Raymarine is if you have the rest of their gear which is the reason I just bought the 18" unit for my new C80.

Amir

thank you all for your input so far... I think I'm leaning towards the RL70CRC Plus unit... well see...
