My 1956 Evinrude 10 HP would run good for a few minutes on both cylinders. Once it got a liitle warm it would only run on 1 cylinder. Bought 2 new coils and set of 2 points and condensors. Removed flywheel and both sets of coils were cracked and both points were pitted.
My problem. The mounting screw for one of the set of points seesm to be stripped as it will not tighten to hold. Anyone see any problem if I can find just a slightly larger screw ( say metric) and put it in even if I have to re-tap the hole a bit larger? ( I may have to cut or grind it to proper length) I see that the 2 points mounting screws can not protude the base of the plate.
I don't know how this happened but this hole just seems a bit larger than the other one. I tried trading screws, with the other set of points, but it is too small also. I replaced one set of points and condensor at a time so I cannot see how this happened as I only removed the condensor mounting screw and the the point mounting screw. Anyway it did.

As long as the points lock down, no problem. I had to do the same on the cam screw on one set of points on my 6 hp. Still working great.

Another question: With each set of points there was a little felt wick ( maybe 1/2" wide by 1" long), with oil or grease on one end) that supposed to fit below the coil and I guess lubricate the point cam. There was no old one when I removed the old coils and for the life of me cannot seem to figure how they are supposed to be mounted.

there should be (2) small clips that snap in(down) to hold the felt. Not having a photo reference I can't tell exactly where on your setup.
