Replacing rectifier

I have a 1991 Evinrude 175hp and will be replacing the rectifier. I was curious what is the best brand to replace it with? I've found part numbers and pricing for Sierra & Mallory, but what I'm looking for is any experience or preference you may have for replacement. Also is it much of a chore to pull the flywheel to replace?

Thanks,

Not likely you'll have to pull the flywheel. If you do, follow instruction under sticky Top Secret File. I would use a CDI Electronics or BRP part myself.

I also recommend CDI and BRP on these kind of electronics. Yours is a water cooled regulator, be careful to not drop gasket pieces into the cooling gallery when you scrape the old gasket off.

Re: Replacing rectifier

I have been searching the web for the best price for the CDI part. I have ran across a part for "V6 60 degree outboards". Can someone explain is this something different than the part I actually have? The price is considerable cheaper then other sites that carry the CDI 193-4093. here is a link for the part that I found. http://bpi.ebasicpower.com/p/MAL9-17206

Sorry I should have looked closer. I see that this a Mallory part not a CDI part.
