Replacing Reg Decals

I am looking at replacing my registration decals as the old ones are pretty shot. I am thinking of replacing them with a green color one to match my boat a little or getting gold ones and moving it a little bit down. If I move the reg number, is it hard to get out that ghost looking impression left by the old one?

Thanks,

It depends on the color of the hull and how faded the rest of it is. I just removed the numbers from my Cruisers and it buffed out nicely with Starbright Color Restorer. But it is kind of a pale blue. A darker color might need a more aggressive treatment.

I would start with something mild like Starbright Color Restorer.
If that didn't work then move up to something like MeGuiars Diamond Cut.
And finally, as a last resort, wet sanding.
But you will be doing the whole hull.

I'm moving my numbers above the rub rail on the side of the upper deck just to avoid this type of problem in the future.

Looking at your picture I can see what you mean. I was thinking of moving my reg stickers from above to below, the way you have it, but it makes me hesitant.

If I go with new ones I was thinking this: http://www.iboats.com/Series-200-3-...5370862--**********.388906335--view_id.341481

I could put it over where the old one was. I think it might hide the ghost of the old one better.

Re: Replacing Reg Decals

The white makes it easier. There shouldn't be much ghosting at all and if there is you should be able to buff it right out with something mild like the color restorer. So it's pretty much up to you whether to go above or below the rail.

One thing to remember, your numbers have to be a contrasting color. Dark letters on the white or light letters on the dark green.
So if you go with the ForestGreen/Black you'll have to place them on the white.
