Any suggestions for repowering my 22 foot Hurricane. I see Yamaha is very popular these days. Four stroke definitely. What about HP for the size hull? I don't need to fly, but I don't want a smaller outboard straining. Currently I have a 93 115hp Evinrude. For an old outboard it has lots of power but sure is a gas hog.

Man I am surprised that boat came with a 115. My bud has a 19.5' hurricane with a 115 and it feels ok. Id put the max hp that the transom calls for if I could afford it. Yamaha 4 strokes are awesome, but I know a lot of folks with Suzuki 4s that are very happy and they seem to be much more affordable.

You say 4 stroke for sure, but the E-rude Etecs are sweet engines too. Less maintenance, less weight and lots of low end torque.

I vote for the Evinrude E-Tec. Sutor forgot one thing above. Less moving parts to wear out with a 2 stroke.
