Re: Restoration project start 1990 chris craft 254 seahawk
Well now that all the cold is leaving the area it is getting to be fishing time and I am getting some serious fi****is!!! Have been on the fence about trading in and getting a newer boat but not sure so I am going to continue to work this one and see where it goes. I have a question for anyone reading. I got as much old fuel as possible witha pump so how do I go about gettting the remaining out. The level is way below the pickup line and I am almost certain I got all of it out of the tank as possible. i was going to stuff some absorbent pads down in and soak the rest up but not sure if this is a goodidea. The only space I have to do this is the fuel level sensor I took it out to get what Icould out. I am thinking about drilling a 4" hole in the top and making a cover for it so I can get it all out. THat way next time I want to defuel her it would be easier. Although I donot plan on doing it again I hope.
Anyway I have sanded her al the way around with 120-600 grit on a RA sander but I am not getting the results that I have seen on here yet but I am still working it. Also I pulled all the covers and hinges off and am stripping down the old non-skid off the hatches then I will do the same on the lower deck sense the PO put something on there as non-skid but looks like butt. My wife has asked me to have her ready for the water by the end of march and I plan ato have the shop get the engine bullet proof as soon as fund from taxes come in. Still have a few things to get worked out before I send it to the shop but is cvoming together nicely. Still unsure about the gelcoat whether I am getting it or am just going to end up with a nice paintjob... will have to see but thats about it for today.
