did it sink????
I bought this boat, motor, trailer for $650 so I didnt expect too much. The mercruiser Ford 302 V-8 188 HP was seized up but I managed to break it lose with a bar after oiling the cylinders and got it running.
The floor boards were rotted out so I cut the floor out and found the sprayed in foam flotation was saturated with water. With a recip saw and grub hoe I removed all the foam. I replaced it with blocks of "green" foam insulation and spray can foam. The "joists" were replaced with pressure treated 1X8 planks, and decked with 1/2" plywood, then fiberglassed.
The soggy foam as removed took 10 of the biggest plastic bags I could buy (45 gal - 55US gal size) each bag weighed over 100 Lbs. It took 2 of us to lift them into the truck for disposal. Along with the soggy wood and plywood, and the water in the bilge and belowdecks I believe we removed about 1800 lbs from this boat..... No wonder it felt so heavy towing it home.....The question is, was it sunk for an extended period or left full of water???? I have never seen this spray in foam so wet that it dripped when removed.
The convertible top needed some repairs to holes, and a plastic window replaced. The Marmac engine controller was seized but dissassembly and grease soon put it right. We hope to water test by June 30, 2010
