Hi, just recently pickep up this great Starcraft on a trade. Needs very little work but i have a few questions.
1. Paint is actually good except where they tried to paint over old scratches. Is there a way just to paint these areas?

2. Material on outside of cabin appears to be vinyl. Should i just put new vinyl on or is there other options? Im open to anything on this.

3. How do i bring the shine back to the railing?

4. The top of the cabbin where the vent is, is that fiberglass? Paint is peeling off and would like to fix that as well.

Any help will be appreciated!

I can't imagine that you'll be able to match the color to be able to make it look right. You are probably better off leaving it as is or looking to paint the whole thing, eh!

Cheers!

1. I have a 1974 18" Chieftain. The cabin is aluminum... has kind of a pebble texture. Light sanding is ok.. looks like you need fresh paint anyway..I'd lightly sand and paint everything..

2. Material on OUTSIDE of cabin appears to be vinyl? I'd rip it off!! It's probably just the texture of the aluminum.. slight pebble effect.

3. Use very fine (0000) steel wool first and then Never-Dull...can get at most hardware stores.

4. Mine has no vent. I don't think any fiberglass was used on these boats.. but it's old. Who knows what the last yahoo did to it? That should get fixed when you paint the whole boat! lol

What year is yours? Looks like early 70's.. is it 21'?

I STRONGLY suggest checking out ALL wood in that boat...especially the open areas for rot. Most old Starcrafts have some rot. I replaced all wood from the cabin to the transom.. yes, even the transom.. do a thorough check on the wood before you take it out... does the motor run? Give us some details please. Buckle your chin-strap man.. you are in for a ride!!!
