retaining pull start

what size outboard do they stop making pull starts? i f one was to get a25 30 hp 4 stroke ,would the pull start be removed? do u have to pay more to retain the pull start?

If it is an electric start, the traditional pull start will not likely be present. The flywheel however will very likely have the groove and notch in it for rope starting.

Old OMC and Mercs had a built in pull start with elecric start up to about 40 HP. Old Chrysler had them optional up to 55 but they replaced the starter motor so it was either-or with the exception of the 20-25 which had both as stock.

Could not begin to say about new engines.

Up above 20 it is difficult to use pull starting as anything but emergency use. Old OMC had a compression release valve for pull starting.

My 60 hp Merc 4 stroke has a groove and a rope attached under the hood so I guess it would qualify. Hope to god I never have to use the rope, though.

I have a 2007 Tohatsu 25hp. 4 stroke with electric start and pull start.
