Ok fellas, shes hung back up with T-H marine jack plate. Just waiting on a few parts to put lower back on. Should happen tomorrow and then maybe a test run on Monday.

Did you go with a fixed model rather than the adjustable?

Yeah guys I went with the fixed mount for now. I thought about it and decided this would be best for the time being. I measured 2 times before picking a height on the motor bracket and pretty sure it should be even with keel or slightly above. At work now but taking off in 2 hours to finish maintenance and hook up controls. If there's daylight you may just see her on the water and get some performance stats *fingers crossed*

Nice! Is the jack plate manual or hydraulic?

It's fixed so it doesn't raise but have me the 5.5" I needed with a little setback also. I will keep you posted how she does as soon as I have all wrapped up.

The set back is minimal with that plate so being even or 1/2" up should do just fine.

Well guys I did have her out cruising Monday. Not all the expected results but still ran ok. Need to come up 2 holes on mount. Fixed up all the tilt and trim wiring and relays Thursday, installed new controls and cables Friday.

Took out Monday. Maxed out at 5400 and 41mph. Think there's too much drag. Sputtered a little after running for about 20 min. Probably raise her up and clean the carbs next and test again.

Great part is I'm still catching fish :)

Careful raising the motor up more, where is the AV plate at in relation to the bottom?

What year is the 140, if like my Merc 140 it could be prop rated which could drop you 10% in HP or more and anything over 40 MPH takes a lot of power in these boats.

classiccat at Yep out by TMI. It makes for quick trips its close by.

thanks BWR1953 been hoping for some drier weather for ya!!

Watermann thinking I have it lined up perfect now. It is a 1990 Johnson 140 V4. I'll keep squeezing anyway I can.

The good news is the big stuff is out of the way electrical, Cooling, trim, bracket. Going to play with the carburetors this weekend:playball: while it rains rains rains..... lol

The nice thing about the design on these carburetors is that the bowls and the Jets are independent of the throttle mechanisms so you can take them apart without interfering with any of that. And the main jet is directly behind the bowl drain so you don't even have to take them off to inspect it.

Carb rebuild revealed portside bottom cylinder #4 high speed jet clogged. Don't know how much more oomph that will give me but feels good knowing there all clean as a whistle now.

I didn't kill it

That does sound good. Used to fish in a bass club and a guy had a Merc 225 2 stroke. Told my brother in law if his boat had a motor that sounded like the 225 we would've get anywhere cause I would just listen to it idle all day. Brings back memories of my drag racing days.

That rude sure sounds sweet. You should tell a big difference from running on 3 cyl to 4cyl now..

Thanks for stopping by guys. 140 + jack plate ate my knee brace. I reinforced with 1/8" angle on both sides like most everyone else here. Seems a lot more solid. Well see I guess lol
