Reverse gear

I have a E50BELCIC Evinrude motor just got the motor back from the shop after waiting 3 and a half months. Starts right up strong compression. The problem I have cant get reverse dialed in with the remote cable adjustment its almost there I adjustedthe shift rod to 53.1cm any ideas out there

Seems to be an epidemic of motors not being able to go into reverse. If you remove the shift rod can you shift it into reverse manually?

I haven't tried that yet can I adjust the ship ride up to where to go down a little more when it goes in reverse
