It keeps your out drive from poping up when you are in reverse, If you do a lot of baking up in tight areas or around other boats then it is a real good idea to have it working so you will not hit some one or some thing because you will not have as much controll when needed. And after time with it poping up you will be hurting the ujoint's between the drive and the engine, And also rubbing a hole inside the rubber ujoint bellows letting in water and now having a water leak inside the boat, And rusting up the ujoints and Gimbel Bearing, BIG $$$$.$$.:eek: What engine/drive do you have?

82 mercruiser 120 with alpha one but my bro in law does not have one and his outdrive does not go up? i only see one clear tube to the reverse lock is that how it is or does it need two tubes?
