ringfree/shock treatment

I just bought a skeeter bass boat with a 2000 150hp yamaha vmax hpdi on the back of it and I'm doing all the precautionary maintenance stuff like plugs, water pump etc... I also want to do a shock treatment and then start using ringfree on a regular basis. I'm pretty sure that the previous owner has never used ringfree or any other similar products on this motor. What are the dangers of doing the shock treatment and breaking loose all those carbon deposits? Also, I've read that you should change the plugs after the shock treatment because they may become fouled. If I'm changing the plugs before the shock treatment should I change them again after? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: ringfree/shock treatment

If your motor has a lot of carbon, then the Ringfree shock treatment of 2 ounces of Ringfree per gallon of gas can cause some spark plug fouling(that's what the Ringfree guys say), so probably a good idea to keep some new or clean plugs handy. I run the Ringfree all the time at the "deposit prevention" dosage of 1 ounce per 10 gallons of gas and I use the Pennzoil 100% Synthetic Outboard Oil and I have almost no carbon, very little smoke, no plug fouling at all. The prospect of piston rings stuck in their grooves with carbon is something I just don't want to deal with. Good Luck!

Thanks Robert. I guess I'll just give it a shot.
