Hello all, I wanted to post some pics of a a recently completed project. This project was completed on my 1995 Rinker Captiva 212 Open Bow. When I purchased the boat last year I noticed that both the driver's and passenger side dashes were in bad shape. From the factory, Rinker had used an injection molded plastic to create a shell and then covered this in marine grade vinyl.

The problem with this method is that with several years in the hot baking sun, the plastic had started to get extremely brittle and began to crack. Finally, one hot summer day last year, my wife put her feet on the passenger side dash and it fell to the floor. Being, the DYI'er I am, I set out to come up with a solution for this problem.

Below are some photos of how I did this project. I would imagine that there are at least a few people out there with the same problem.

Here is a shot before, you can see the vinyl starting to roll off the plastic. At this point, the dashes were very unstable and no weight could be put on them for fear of them breaking. Also, notice the configuration of the driver's side gauges.

Here you can see several photos of the passenger side. When I pulled the vinyl from the plastic, it went to pieces so much of it had to be completely rebuilt using bondo jelly, body filler and fiberglass resin and mat. The insides of both sides were lined with fiberglass resin and matting for extra strength.

Here are some shots after most of the body work had been done. Notice on the driver's side I changed the gauge configuration so that I could add a depth finder.

This is the final product installed. Upgrades made once painting was done include: All Stainless fastening hardware, new cup holders, satellite radio, Humminbird HDR600 depth sounder and switch,

Dashes are Restoration Shop Shoreline Beige.
Doors are Restoration Shop Buckskin Tan.

I hope that this project might help others having similar problems with their Rinker Dashes.

Nice job on the dash! Looks incredible. Is that an add-on courtesy light in the bow? I've often thought about updating the lighting in my '97 212. Did you use LED? What other mods have you done to the boat?
