I have a mercruiser 120 hp 1986 motor with a rochester 2bbl carb on it. I recently purchased the boat and the guy I bought it from said it had a hesitation to it when accelerating. I took it out the other day and sure enough you could barely get on the throttle without it trying to go dead. He just rebuil the carb last summer and said that it was pitted pretty bad and that where the little ball sits below the accelerator pump wasnt seating well but he didnt purchase a new carb and just got by with it. Does anyone know what a new carb price would be and if so where is the best place to get it? Also is there any hope of salvaging this one?

I also checked the accelorator pump by pumping the throttle and 2 streams of fuel came out.

It sounds like an air/fuel mixture problem to me. If your getting pump fuel, the check ball probably isn't the problem. Is the choke plate opening up? You might want to get a vacuum gauge and check for a vacuum leak. Also, who knows whether the carb was rebuilt properly-there's a lot of potential issues there. If you want to get a new/rebuilt carb, which sounds like a good place to start based on the old owner's comments, you could try BFIC www.carbsonly.com

Your looking at around 300 + bucks for A rebuilt/new<br />carb. I purchased one off of ebay last year. It worked good but this year I have that same ol stumble upon exceleration. Its very common for this type of carb.Try changing the eccelerator pump again.Seems like this kind of carb has A big problem with that.

I'm not sure that stumble problem has been totally solved yet today. My daughter and son-in-law bought a new Glastron and after three carbs and numerous times in the shop attempting to solve the problem the dealership bought the boat back. They now own a new Crestliner with an OB.
