I have a 1997 200 yamaha
The #3 piston had the locator pin come out and the ring walked around and caught the exhaust port and the motor came to the end of its life.
Is this a common problem? I'm in the process of assembling the motor back together and was wondering what the rod bolt torque is? Also do they use a speacial tool like the newer omc's use?
Thanks Chris

Re: Rod bolt torque

hello
I dont have my service manual beside me. of course if I was assembling a motor I would. so should you.I looked in an older manual and the spec is first to 12ftlbs then 25ftlbs. but I dont have them here at home for a 97. no special tools are needed. but for a project that size you should definately buy a service manual.
good luck and keep posting

You will need a 12 point 8mm socket to tighten with. Snap on has been the best source for for thin enough to go on properly. This has not been a common problem with Yamaha, even though the Wisecos used in Mercurys are famous for it.
