I have a 1999 S225TXRX, original owner.
When it sits for more than a few days (I only get to use it 1-2x a week unfortunately) here is an annoying symptom. Starts fine, always on the first crank. But within the first few seconds, it idles at 4-500 rpms and usually dies (sounds as if it runs out of gas or something). No weird noises, just like the key was turned off. It does not sneeze or cough. I know this is below the idle rpms spec and it used to idle on cold start 900-1100 until warmed up before settling down to 750+-. If I try to increase idle throttle, it definitly stalls.
It will always start right back up again and usually is fine after that. Once warmed up, it runs flawlessly at all rpm's.
I've tried pumping the bulb before the intial cold start but that hasn't really helped, it's always felt firm. Also, when it's idleling 4-500 and sounds like it wants to stall, pumping the bulb doesn't help either.
All scheduled maintenance was done less than 50 hours ago (vst, lp pumps, tps, O2 sensor clean/test, plugs, plug caps, t-stats, poppit, etc.). I also changed the thermo switches and sensor in the spring when I changed the stats. The only thing that I haven't changed yet and is still original (sad I know) is the fuel pressure regulator screen. Can this be the problem?
If I turn the key on but do not try to start it, can I test the fuel pressure then or does the engine need to be running?
Thanks for the help in advance.
