my oldest son rolled my 3 seater gti today and it's the 1st time i've had that to happen. i was on the deck boat fishing and he yelled at me and i saw what had happened. we rolled it back over the way it was suppose to be done. i opened the seat and there was a lot of water in the engine compartment so we just towed it back in. got it home drained all the water, pulled the plugs, turned it over a few times to get any water out of the cylinders. i put a fan inside to dry everything out. after a couple hours i cleaned the plugs, put them back in and started it back up. it took a few cranks but it seems to be running okay on the trailer. is there anything else i need to do? i can't get in touch with anyone tonight so i hope it will be okay. i figured getting it started again would be the best thing, i hope i didn't screw up. thanks for any help.

Take it back to the water and run the hell out of for about 2 hours to dry up the water that got in to the crankcase area no way to drain must get it out thru heat transfer. it is the only way and the sooner the better SeaDoo crankshafts rust in a hurry if left sitting with water in the crankcase for more than a couple days.

Rick

Get a can of spray silicon and spray it on everything in the ski especially wires, and the battery terminals, run the ski on a flush kit with the top of the air box removed, get a couple of ounces of dextron 2 trans fluid and dribble it in both ends of the air cleaner while it is running ,, it will smoke a lot but trans fluid mixes with water and will burn off easily, run it for about 4 or 5 min then clean the plugs, it will be fine.

You DON"T have a flush kit!!! get to the dealer, not expensive. air box is the big black plastic cover over the carbs, push the clips back and pull off the top.

Some of the newer GTI have a flush fitting adjacent to the pump at the back you just screw the hose into the fitting. I use a shut off ball valve near the back with a short piece of hose to allow me to shut off and turn on the water.
Do not turn on the water without the engine running and turn off the water before you shut off the engine.
The best thing is to run it for at least 1/2 hour if you think you got water inside the engine. do this right away.

Mike

If the intake was submerged with the motor running you probably ingested water. Most 2-strokes have ball and needle bearings that can be ruined very quickly when exposed to water. Once all the liquid is removed from inside the motor it should be started asap and allowed to heat up sufficiently to dry out all the nooks and crannies. Moisture is an enemy inside the motor. If allowed to stay it will cause damage that only a tear-down can remedy.
Charlie

Does silicone spray displace water? If not, wouldn't he have been better off spraying all the electrical connections with something like CRC 2-26 that does displace water and then maybe a couple of days later respraying with silicone spray for further protection if desired?

This is a question, not a suggestion, since I don't know for sure how well the silicone will penetrate and displace water as compared to something like CRC 2-26.

p.s. Didn't notice the dates of this thread until after I posted. This forum is pretty inactive compared to alot of the other ones, isn't it?

Re: rolled my sea doo gti. help!!

the answer is yes it displaces water and it will not eat any of the hoses or wires, it also repells water and is a nonconductor of electricity, so it is good to spray it on electrical components as a matter of routine, an ounce of prevention and it is easily and readily available in most stores , the post may be old but the question is a good one so now it's a new post. This site isn't slow but the pwc part isn't traveled as heavily as other sections are.

Jeff,

For the actual electrical connections (terminals) wouldn't you want something that displaces water but DOES conduct electricity? Especially if it penetrates, like, say, between ring terminals?

Re: rolled my sea doo gti. help!!

maybe we're talking about different things.

for example, on my boat i was having trouble with starting. clicked a few times before turning over. the first step everyone recommended was thouroughly cleaning (sanding) terminal connections at grounds, assist solenoid, etc. to make sure good electrical connection then protecting with something like dielectric grease or CRC 2-26 (which conduct electricity).

One of the posts on the assist solenoid, for example, has three ring terminals attached (one nut holds em on). Seems critical that electricity is thoughourly conducted between all three of these ring terminals. If something non conductive were to penetrate between these, would seem to be similar to the case if corrosion built up, which may be why I'm having problems in the first place.

NOw i do understand that for general corrosion protestion (like say the casing) you don't want something that conducts.

Am i missing something?

Re: rolled my sea doo gti. help!!

dialectric grease absoloutely is not a conductor it is silicon, based, just heavier than silicon spray ,if you put a conductor in to a pin plug things would short out, just like if you get salt water in it as salt water is a conductor, the pins make a connection but keep water from getting in to short things out from one pin to the next, I think you are confusing conductivity with insulation, in no way does it insulate the contacts .
