Roller inside diameter

Hi all;

I measured the bent metal rods that my old wobble rollers are installed on, and they're 0.64 inches in diameter. Basically the rods are solid metal bent into a U shape with one roller on each end and a hinge in the middle that attaches to the mounting arm. I need to replace these rollers - they're cracked, and leaving big black marks on my hull.

Most of the rollers I can find to replace the old cracked ones have an inside diameter of 1 1/8 or 1 3/4 down to 5/8 or 3/4 ... are my old (1973) roller shafts unusually small? Or is the shaft usually smaller than the hole by a lot?

Sometimes these old roller shafts need an insert that the wobble roller rides on. See if your marine supply store can help identify what is the correct roller with insert to fit on the shaft. Another resource might be Champion Trailers?

Re: Roller inside diameter

I see some bushings listed for ez-roller trailers.. although the current rollers don't have any. I kind of get the feeling the rollers are meant to not fit tightly? It's hard to tell with my current ones, they may fit badly just because they're old?

The next closest major size I can see for the rollers is a 5/8 shaft, which would work out if the rollers are meant to "wobble" per the name. Can anyone confirm that this would be the right size to get?

Re: Roller inside diameter

I know I have a problem with my rollers, the PO fit them directly onto the shaft and bypassed the bushings. Don't know why he did that but the rollers are now too big for the shaft and don'w work the way they should. But at the price of a whole new set of rollers, I am making do with them for now.

Re: Roller inside diameter

I found my own solution.. the rollers should fit loosely on the shafts, and once I sandblasted the corrosion off the shafts and re-measured I found I was way off, in the wrong direction - my shafts are 3/4" even. So, I'm getting a lot of 40 rollers from eastern marine for about $210 plus shipping, of the size for 3/4" shafts. Hurts to do, but the old ones are really shot.

How is that possible? Are you sure you measured them right?

Re: Roller inside diameter

Help - I have an old Shoreline tandem w/ 32 rollers. The rollers function but are old, cracked, have metal hubs. Rollers have an inside diam of 7/8", OD is 4 3/8" and are 3" wide The roller shafts are 3/4" and with that excess play, these rollers really are loose and wobble on the shafts....Steel on steel

Is this normal? Or do I need to replace with rollers having true 3/4" ID, or larger size that seat to 3/4" with reducer bushings? Seems most new rollers have plastic hubs...

Any insight
