Roller trailer value?

I got into an argument with a buddy today who is selling a 15year old Load Rite full roller single axle 2400lb GVW trailer. He bought it brand new for $1750 back around 1997 or so, and it's been sitting in his garage unused ever since. He had intended to buy a particular boat but never did and the trailer sat. He was going to sell it to a guy he works with for $400, after the coworker convinced him it's worthless being so old.

The trailer is mint, no wear, kept in a heated garage since new. It's got urethane rollers, an electric winch, and LED lights. I say it's worth pretty much what he paid then in that you can't touch a new trailer like it for anywhere close to what he paid.

I have a newer version of that same trailer which I hunted all over for and finally found one at $800, then I had to replace all the rollers, the wheel bearings and tires on. His is mint.

I just don't see how sitting would in any way devalue the trailer, especially when current models are so highly priced.

I think the coworker is trying to scam him out of a trailer for cheap? For $400, I'd put it in under my boat and sell mine for far more.
As an example I just sold a similar trailer with a 3200 gvw that was used but in decent shape and had no problem getting $1200 for it. It wasn't listed for more than half a day before it sold.

Yes, some people are always looking for FREE or next to free. Including myself. Though in this case I don't believe this person is being honest with his friend and is trying to take advantage. I believe the friend truely know what the real value of that trailer is.

I find it very disheartening when I sell something to a friend or co-worker for a low price because I believe they could truely use it and would enjoy it only to later find that they had resold it for twice what they paid for it.

I tried to tell him to list it online but he insisted on just using the local paper. The guy that offered the $400 backed out saying he found something better for less.
He listed it for $500 in the paper and got no replies. He finally came to me and said he'd take $300 if it left that day. Right or wrong I bought it figuring that if I didn't, someone else would only get it instead. I sold my well used trailer for $1100 the next day on CL and now have a nice shiny mint trailer under my boat again. I swapped over my new tires onto that trailer and sold mine with the older tires as well.
Mine was only listed for about 3 hours when it sold for asking price.
If mine was worth $1100, this one is worth double simply since it's never been in saltwater and has zero rust. I also kept my winch and put the power winch on the shelf for now as my truck isn't wired for it and I often use a buddies truck to pull the boat.

well only thing would be the tires being 15 years old if there cracked, probably are needs new but trailers are expensive. $400 i would have bought it and sold it a week later for $800 no problem. my uncle bought a bob cat trailer last year $200. guy said if you can get back here before those idiots who just left not knowing what a pintle hitch is its all yours needless to say my uncle had it mounted on the dump truck that he was driving and has 1 more trailer at his house...works pretty good used it monday for a new holland tractor bringing it to a job site.
