Rotted Transom

I have a 13' 1986 Rigid Hull Inflatable. The transom is rotted and cracked. I took it to an inflatable dealer and repair place. The qoute came back at $1000 to repair the transom. Other then the transom the boat is in very good condition. The fabric is good. <br /><br />I have 2 questions. Is the cost inline with the work that needs to be done, and is the boat worth the cost? I do not have a model number so I am having trouble looking up the value on NADA. It is a unique model because it is self ballasting. It also has a center console.<br /><br />I am more concerned with, is the cost of the repair worth what the guy wants as the cost of replacing the boat would be high<br /><br />I have 35HP merc that goes with it that is in good shape.

Jollymon;<br />I'm in the middle of ripping out the transom and floor of a 26 year old 19 ft. boat I own. The transom is being done all from the inside so I won't be cutting out any of the original exterior glass.<br />Basically the transom is 2 layers of 3/4 plywood laminated together and then fiberglassed and epoxied to the stern.<br />I can tell you that its a labor intensive, dirty, dusty and time consuming job. BUT, if you do it yourself, you'll save your wallet a little over $900.00

If I were you, I would investigate doing it yourself. If you have basic handiness, you can do it. Go to Project Boats and look at some of the rebuilds that have been done. Your 13 footer would be a breeze to do, you'll save a ton of cash, and be much happier. Good luck...

Jason & JFC,<br /><br />If it were a total glass or wood and glass boat, i would have tried it in a heart beat. My concern is how do you tie the new transom into the Inflatable tubes. You can not just epoxy it back in. I hate to spend the extra money But I want it done right.<br /><br />It still leaves the question of Is the price of $1000 out of line for what he is doing?
