Hello,
I recently loaned my pontoon boat (21' x 40 horse Mercury) to some friends that were house sitting for me. I took the boat out after returning from vacation and swear that it runs at a higher RPM per speed than when I left. For example at full throttle it would run at approx 5,000 RPM. Now the tach reads 6,000. Same at lower speeds. I don't have a speedo but at slow no wake speeds it used to run 2,000 RPM, now 3,000.

I checked the prop. It's not in great condition but no worse than when I left.

The specs say top RPM is 5,000 - 5,300 (approx) so I don't like seeing the tach at 6,000 to get to cruising speed. And not knowing much about outboard mechanics I don't know what to look for.

Does this make any sense to anyone?

Thanks in Advance,

Rob
