2000 175hp Evinrude. Idles fine, but when you advance the shifter it jumps to 10,000 rpms immediately. No slow, from zero to 10,000. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

How much travel is in the control handle from neutral to when it actually goes into gear? Sounds like a cable needs adjusting.
It should go into gear before it starts advancing the throttle.

it could be as easy as a miss adjusted cable to the remote control. remove the cable from the motor and shift the motor manually at the motor and see what happens.

Not sure I follow you. What are you expecting?

You should be idling @ 800 rpm or so. Moving the throttle forward increases the RPM so a 200 rpm increase shouldn't be much of a surprise.

The control should shift way before the rpms start coming up.
Mine has about an inch of travel in gear before it starts moving the throttle'
Its really hard on it going in and out of gear at 1000 rpms or more.
