Hi, I just purchased a Motorguide trolling motor. It came with 8 rubbers washers about 1" round and a 1/4" thick. It does not specify in the installation manual what these are for. It says to mount the motor with the 4 bolts and stainless washers included. The mount in a quick release aluminum plate similiar to the powerdrive unit.

Do these rubber washers go between the mounting plate and the bow or should I just not use them. The bow is carpeted plywood. I was thinking they might be used for mounting on uneven surfaces to prevent the plate from bending.

If anyone knows what these washers are for and if I should use them let me know? I don't really see a need for them but I may be missing something.

Thanks in advance, Jay

They are intended to be used on fiberglass boats to prevent damage to the gel coat. They would go between the plate and the deck. They can also be used in the same manner on any boat to help space the plate slightly for air circulation under it and also to help reduce vibration.
