rude 88spl help!!!

i recently aquired a 1988 rude 88spl and im having troubles getting it to run , i have followed the starting procedure to a t but with no luck she still wont run , its getting fuel, has spark but still nothing . the guy i got it from stated he replaced a keyway in the motor ???? and that it ran fine before he did .....could it be out of time?? and how do i adjust the timing on this ... any help would be great.
also i have a air guide sea speed tach but not sure how to hook it up to this motor the guage has 2 wires on it one black and one yellow ..also has 4 screws on back with a jumper wire going from 1to3to4 any ideas would be verry helpfull

If the flywheel key was broken before, it probably has gone again, usually the result of not using a torque wrench to replace the nut.

Pull the flywheel and check.

It is rare that the timing would be off unless someone tried to change it. If that is so, you will be better off to have it set by a trained outboard mechanic.

You should run a spark test with a good tester and all spark plugs out. Look for 7/16 snappy blue fire on all cylinders.

if the key is broke will this cause the motor to not start and how serious of a job is this ($$$$) there are few outboard mechanics where i live and im not too sure what to look for when it comes to outboard mechanic credintles

That would definately cause it not to run. If you plan on doing any work, the first thing that you will need is a manual, along with some tools such as a quality puller with grade 8 bolts, torque wrench, etc...
