'rude carb adjustments

Now that I've reregistered..... Can anyone let me know if I'm correct in assuming the following: turning the idle mixture screw clockwise, leans the mixture and anti clock wise enriches the mixture? This is for a '90 40 hp Evinrude. Also, after stripping the carbs down, cleaning all the jets etc, what would be a good starting point for the idle mix screw? 1.5 turns, 2 turns, 2.5 turns?<br /><br />Thanks and Steve, next time I replace trailer bearings, I'll call on you :D

rudeafrican,You are correct in the mixture valve directions.A good starting point would be 1 1/2 turns open.My 70 runs best at around 2 1/4 turns open.
