Paid 700 bucks for a water pump and carbs rebuild. the engine starts now but it seems to run rough when in a no wake zone. I have to take it out of gear and rev it up to smooth out some. Any ideas what this could be? I do not recall this happening a few years back. Yes it has been sitting a while. I wanted to take it out a few times to clear out the engine before I call the shop again.

Re: Rude running rough

Are you running fresh, clean gas? Replaced your fuel lines?
Did your mechanic run the motor in a test tank or on a boat? If so and it ran fine for him, I'd think you may have some problems with dirty fuel. What motor are you running?
Just some ideas,

I installed a new gas tank last year and put fresh gas in it for the first time prior to bringing the boat in for repair maybe 1-2 months ago. The filter, line (exept for the short part going to the engine, I could not change it out) is new as well. I may have to bring it back to them to check.

Re: Rude running rough

Man am I glad I work on my own stuff, $700 for a pump and carbs!!!!!!!

It really isn't hard and a manual is less than $100 but I digress.

I changed fuel line last year and a tinny piece of gas line got caught in one of the inlets on the carb, pulled the fuel line and got the piece out and it ran fine, so you may just have a clogged jet.

That can happen really anytime rebuilt or not, one tinny little piece of anything will clog jets, first time it takes maybe 2 hours then you know how to do it and you aren't giving your wallet to a mechanic, just a thought.

I know there is a way to get a new fuel line in there but there is no room for my fat hands to get in there. It is the short piece that goes from the filter to the engine.
Once I am WOT it seems to run smooth.

Get the manual do it yerself, very very simple.
In fact its so simple you'll be embarrassed when you find out.

Then again, I used to pay mechanics to change my windshield wipers.
I think THEY were embarrassed.

Now the tools of the trade comes out. Medical meets with mecahnical. I have been hesitant to do things myself because I just know I would mess it up but you guys always give the right encouragement.

I have a 90 hp envinrude, mid 90s and it sat for around 10 years so it has some cobwebs to get out.
