Just aquired new motor with first boat purchase. Noticed upper cylinder wasnt firing and getting minimal spark. I replaced points and condensers, coils, spark plug wires. I now have both cylinders firing but I am not sure if timing is off or carb problems. Currently I am in process of doing the seafoam treatment as suggested in other threads Ive read. Compression is 75 in both cylinders.
Previous owner said hasnt been ran in over a year.
I do not have a timing light or the jumper meters, I did not remove the key in the shaft when I pulled the flywheel however the timing plate below magneto moved a bit when I was replacing the stuff. I slowly turned the shaft and set points to .20 when it looked most apart, rotated 180 and did the other. Im new to boat motors, limited in other motors but figured I would get it a shot. Very possible I could have screwed something up.
