hello, I am in the process of resealing head and replacing o rings and thermostat seals on a 98 115 60 degree evenrude, the factory manuel says to run a one 16th bead around the water passages , well I have the oval passages and the passages with two round holes close to each other do you run a bead around each of the two round holes or just run a bead around both holes at same time, also omc ran some rtv in the oring groove the manuel says to use some triple guard grease to hold o ring in place , also. there is some small hole near head bolt on each head that omc put a glob of rtv in to plug it what was the hole for . heads have never been off I am the original owner. thank you.

I don't know exactly for your motor, but the newer E-TEC manuals show the principle how to seal the cylinder head. Most of the holes are simply to be blocked. They are there for the casting porocess during manufacturing. You can see that some of the RTV will be sqeezed over to the large O-rings, but that shouldn't be a problem.

My OEM Service manual instructs to use triple guard grease to hold the Orings in place during assembly.

The manual also instructs to use RTV adhesive around all water passage holes, but not the round thermostat hole on top of the cylinder block. The V4 picture shows 12 water passage holes, plus two oblong holes on the base of the cylinder block, that need the RTV adhesive.

No RTV on bolt holes or bolts.

Does that answer it?

yes that's what my factory manuel says but I was wondering should I run a bead around the round passages both at one time or each seprtate, also would you let the rtv set up a little before putting head on.

The round passages on top of the head are for the thermostats. They do not get RTV adhesive. Passages on the bottom of the head do get RTV adhesive.

They manual does not specify waiting for the RTV to set up.
