Have you checked the temp with a IR gun,you might be getting dodgy readings.

FYI: I have new: engine, outdrive, circ pump, impeller, manifolds, risers (elbows), t-stat (140F), t-stat housing, Y-pipe, exhaust shutters, all hoses are clear, power steering cooler is clear........and my cruising speed engine temp is still a little higher than the steady-state idle temp.

Re: Running above normal temp

Ok so if Im still running 10-15 degrees above 160 and its not the thermostat, not the circ pump, could there still be something wrong with the impeller

You should be seeing 170? to 175? under load, if you have a 160? thermostat in your engine. Completely normal.

Re: Running above normal temp

Ok that is what Im seeing is up to 175 or so under load. I just thought it was odd because before I changed my impeller last year it would always take a long time to get up to 160 and it would never go over that no matter what. Now it gets up to temp fairly quick and runs 175 or so depending on the speed. Next time I go out Im going to put the temp gun to it and see what its reading. Appreciate all the help.

Re: Running above normal temp

its possible that the raw water pump in the drive is sucking in exhaust fumes

when you replaced it did you completely remove all the old gasket material under the base plate??

salt water can corrode the area where the base plate and gasket seat and should be cleaned thoroughly, also - a coat of perfect seal is in order on the base plate gasket

I have through hull exhaust don't know if that makes a difference, i guess it could still be sucking in air. I cleaned all the old gasket off but did not use perfect seal, it was some type of permatex. I think Im going to just pull the lower and check it to be safe.

Re: Running above normal temp

as long as there is no exhaust exiting thorugh the drive, no chance of exhaust fumes entering there

the only way it would suck air at that point is when on plane
