If you really have to run it before you go, why not do what I did. I hate running my Johnny on muffs, because of the noise. I built a wooden box, just big enough so the lower unit fits in it. Fill it with water. I installed a garboard plug and when I'm done, drain it. This will at least cut down the exhaust noise.

Sounds like a waste of time to me. If the boat is maintained properly there should be no inkling that something will go wrong. If the battery is 10 years old and on its last legs, I'd just turn on the ignition switch without starting it and merely check the voltage. That will tell you if the battery will start the engine.

If the starter is about to go, that one start in the driveway may have been the last one, so you'll be stuck at the Lake anyway.

If you like your neighbors don't do it. Even if they don't appreciate the wake up call they might not complain about it (some people are that nice).

Between boat trips, store your battery on a piece of wood inside of your garage. If you want to run the engine do it the day before at a decent hour.

Sure did!
And I get called a pansy liberal 'cause I give one chance.

What do you men do in Mary Land? Call your therapist? ;):D

So you want to start with me? Make insults about where I live?

I've been in hundreds of physical altercations, but fortunately, I grew up, eventually,. I find it true 99.9% of the time guys who run their mouth, or talk crap on the internet are insecure and the first guys running with their tails tucked between their legs when the stuff hits the fan.

But to end this, I am VERY impressed with your bold proclomations, as I'm sure everyone else is.

Have a great day, and remember, Mary Land as you call it, has the amazing, beautiful, spectacular, and might Chesapeake to enjoy. ;)

I'm still chuckling you attempted to make fun of the state I live in, considering where you hail from.

Have a nice day, and maybe talk to your doctor about your pent up aggression and need to pound your chest on the internet. ;)

If you were my neighbor and were starting your boat at 4:30am I would say something. If it continued you might find that it wouldn't run the next time or ever run again for that matter.

Personally I would be a bit embarrassed to start mine up at 5:00am. I don't like to make a lot of noise when its quiet outside epically early morning. That being said though, I have made the most noise on my block. ;D

I have a feeling that the garbage truck that comes through every morning at 5 is probably a little louder and nobody complains about that.

Wrong!!

When I lived in town, every single time that truck came through, I called and wrote letters, they don't come around at that time anymore, they normally hit our neighborhood after 9 in the morning now...

But I have to say, here in Montana, where I live now, you better have a big boat, if your firing up that early in the morning, cause your going to have a lot of new fishing buddies sitting in your driveway wagging their tongue wondering where and when you are leaving! And can they come along!

How do you take your coffee?

Your trying to justify your actions that 4;30am doesn't seem that early yo you. It is early and it is rude. I make sure I don't cut my grass on the weekends till 9 or 10am. Try being considerate of others.

I guess I don't think my boat is that loud. I run it at max a few minutes. I'm a early morning person 4:30am most every day including weekends so this doesn't seem early to me.

You're running at max throttle for a few MINUTES at that hour?? Astounding you haven't been harmed yet.
Completely unnecessary practice to fully rev an unloaded motor for minutes in your driveway...

Maybe he meant he runs it a maximum of two minutes...

LOL.... He runs it a MAXIMUM OF A FEW MINUTES AT IDLE....

He ALSO already conceded that he was indeed being rude and would start it the day before in the future.....

This one has been resolved..... all the armchair rambo's can stand down now

I have a trickle charger that's mounted in the boat, every time I get home from the lake I just plug it in. Never had an issue with the battery. I sometimes run it on the muffs but not every time. I would have to agree with the comment, "ask the people that live around you", if it don't bother them your good to go. I don't think I would have a problem with someone firing up a boat in the morning & just letting it idle for a min. or two to warm it up. I say, come right out & ask them.

Re: Running Boat on Muffs. Am I rude

Its my problem with these insecurities and not a problem with the boat.

I feel it is inconsiderate to your neighbors...

But in time you will gain confidence, and there wont be a need to run the engine at 5:30 AM. I also recommend purchasing an on board battery charger! One less thing to worry about...

But hey, at least your not the guy at the ramp holding everything up because their boat doesn't start! :D
