Re: Running boat with torn exhaust bellows.

i think im going to order the exaust tube and try it out. im not worried about water getting into the motor as much as i'd be worried about the exhaust bubbles under the ujoint bellows and the water tube and the shift cable. i would think the bubbles would eventually loosen something up? unless there is enough force from the motor at full throttle to make it down through the prop end? i'll have to check it out while were moving.

in other words, you don't have a clue how any of this stuff is supposed to work. So you will do the easiest repair possible (the tube) and look over the back of the boat while on plane, with a big ? over your head, and say ..... "Looks Ok to me"

If the boot was not important it wouldnt be there ! boats without that design are mostly thru tansom exsaust.

Apparently there's no issues with it. Why do you think it is available as an option from the factory (Mercruiser) then?

By the way, I never even knew this item existed, until it came on one of the used boats I had, and regardless of how hard I drove my boat in the Great South Bay of Long Island, I had no problems with it.

I also happen to like the sound of it, it's the next best thing to thru-hull exhaust at WOT, but with a nice mellow underwater rumble at idle.

Yes Don your correct I'm completely mentally handicapped. What I meant was I was worried about a crap load of bubbles escaping in the gimbal area. Obviously if this part makes it louder then that means the exhaust isnt making it to the prop. I'm the only one that ever drives my boat so to be honest I'm not even sure how far up the prop comes out of the water. And I didnt do it the easiest way. I already put brand new friggin bellows on it last summer. There are probably 10 hours on the engine since then. Bellows should last years not hours. So i'm looking for an alternative because they're just going to rip again next winter because the way my yard slopes I cant store it with the prop down like I want to.

Don, I would like to know if there's a technical reason not to use the exhaust tube. Understand it may be louder and area may not stay as clean, but I'm tired of reconnecting the bellows.
