Runs fine in neutral, kills as soon as I put it in gear...Was:"cloudy oil, oil type"

This was http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=252577

New update:

Took it to the lake and put it in, started right up with no problem, idled great, gunned it for a few seconds in neutral, sounded great. Then went to put it in gear and it killed right away as SOON as the throttle went out of neutral.

Let it idle for 5 minutes figuring maybe it's the carb and needs to get some crap out but 5 minutes later same problem.

Is this a carb issue? Can I pull the carb and clean it up and be good or is this something different? Only reason I think it could be something different is because it starts and runs so well in neutral that it has to be getting fuel.

Time for a new lower shift cable. It's stiff and causing the shift interrupt system to stay on which kills the ignition.
No, you can't lube it an make it work.

Thank you very much Don.

Read a how-to on doing this and sounds like it's not something I can even consider attempting. Sounds like it's time to bite the bullet and take it into the dealership and pay 300.00+ to get it done. Here is the guide I just read...

Haven't read that one for years, but it's basically all true ;)

Here is a better read.

Click on the section letter on the outline page, of the sections you want to view.
Sections 2 and 4A are the ones you need to do the shift cable.
