Hi guys
So forst of all let me start by saying till i get a new garage camera i cant take any pics. I dropped it durring the rebuild into parts cleaner so shes a no go now.lol but not really.

Anyway i have a 73 85hp chrysler. I had to do alot of work to the old girl last guy was really rought to it.. I put three used pistons into it and compression is really good.. 135-140. Now i timed the motor as per franks information to 30 degrees. Plugs are good. New fuel lines from pump to tank plus new primer.3/8... There is a bit of a leak at the gas tank connection rubber seal gone. I assume thats why i loose pressure in the bulb... So i primed it pulled the nutral warm up pushed the throttle althe way forward hit the choke and cranked it over started almost right off the bat but.... She runs real rough like bad enough to the point the is a lot of oil build up in the bucket i am using. The plugs are wet when removed from the cyls all three are warm to hot depending on how long i let it run.. No if i pull the throttle back to nutrual it dies almost right away but will start up when pushed forward again.
Any ideas
Thanks

Re: runs really rough

Assume internal engine mechanicals are good. Assume electrical is good as well.

Thus, time to focus on gas areas.

Suggest:
- Using external gas can (for now) and use NEW gas. I hear high octain gas is best.
- Install Carb Kit and clean carbs really good.
- Carb float levels ok ? Jet needles ok ?
- Check fuel pump (install new diaphram / gaskets)
- Decarb the engine - if getting to run at fast idle.
- If fuel spitting gas back out the carb's throat, then check reeds.

Hope these ideas help...

If you loose pressure at the primer bulb I would check the needle and seats. The primer bulb holds pressure from the bulb to the carbs, not between tank and bulb. If their is oil in the water tank, and plugs are wet sounds like it is getting way to much fuel to me.

Keep us posted. if you keep pumping the bulb does any fuel come out of the carbs?

Re: runs really rough

A lil more info... It pumps lots of water. But the water coming out of the back of the mid leg is pretty damn warm. And when shut off looks like steam coming fro. The mid leg im not sure.. When i move the throttle by hand it seems to rev up fine and start to clear up but as soon as u back off on the throttle it dies almost right away .. The amount of oil in the bucket for sure tells me its not burning it.. Wweird it would fire right up though... No gas spills from the carbs
