I need to replace the safety chains but the vin plate on the trailer is unreadable to determine GVW. From the paperwork, I have the vin and ran it through a vin decoder and based on that, the model number indicates a 4200 lb carrying capacity. Should the 5000 lb rated chain be adequate since there will be a pair of chains?

Thanks.

Another capacity question...what should the rating be for the transom tie down straps. The boat is 3400 lbs dry.

Think of it this way, you are securing the trailer, to the boat.
