I have a 85 4-winns Santara 210 open bow that i got for free. I was looking for a new project and this one seems like alot of fun. It has sat for at least a season and a half uncovered at the edge of a wooded lot. As you can see its accumulated alot of dirt/debris and quite a bit of water. I spent the morning pulling ice off the deck and sweeping out leaves and dirt. I was able to identify a few serious trouble spots as well. The boat is tilted back to drain, but its also shifted twards the port side, allowing water to collect in a few areas. I plan to pull up the deck this spring and see what else is toast. What did suprise me is that i took some foam samples on the port side where water would collect and it was bone dry! Right now im just collecting ideas on how i should attack this project.

Re: Santara investigation

The early and mid 80s Four Winns seem to be very solidly built boats. I wouldn't be all that surprised if you find solid stringers and transom. I look forward to seeing progress on your project. I bought an 81 Four Winns this past October.

Re: Santara investigation

Finally working on her again! I have all but the bow portions of the deck removed and about 3/4 of the transom pulled out. The stringers had rot at the transom and were wet pretty much everywhere. Transom was rotted bad below the deckline and had wikked water all the way to the top. The foam was the worst part so far, as its the consistancy of a juicy apple and very heavy. The transom started slow but after i took out the big guns (electric chainsaw) its going much faster. Im doing it all with the cap on BTW... I know im crazy for that but so far it really hasnt gotten in the way much. I may lift the front of the cap when the deck is going back in up in the bow area just to clear the bow floor liner.

Yep its been over 2 years. The boat has been sitting around in my yard. I move it from time to time and climb around in it to keep the bees from taking over.

Re: Santara investigation

i know how you feel i thought i'd fly thru my restore, but sometimes life gets in the way. i actually have lost track of time, friends keep asking if its done,
they all say it will be a new boat when i'm done... i always state it will be better. they're always confused by that. they don't understand. i didn't either when i started.

good luck
