Thanks for the input. I had my own ATV motorcycle repair shop for 20 years, worked for the first ATV dealer in the country before that. Living at 5000 feet is not so much a running issue as it is a power loss issue. Nothing can fix that except forced induction aka turbo charger. Learn to live with it and have a blast when we run at sea level, feels like you added the turbo. Now jetting for 8000-10000 feet that's a different story. Stock jets won't let it hardly run. My Tohatsu is running and idling good, starts right up. Sounds crisp at full throttle. I could re jet but I'm not going to get that 2 hp back. Not saying it might not run a little better but I doubt there would be much performance difference. Now a prop change may be a different story, which I have no expearance with.

That's why asked if you'll be boating on a permanent basis at 5 K Ft of altitude. To take the max HP out of a engine at "altitude" you need to play with jets and prop pitches and that's up to 3 K meter (10,000 Ft) passing that height you're alone, better row along to help " thumbs down". BTW, do you have a long or short shaft engine ?

We currently don't import that 9.8 model, the larger models uses just 2 plates. AV plate above prop and WDP, the small one right on top of the AV plate. You have 3, Anyway you need to adjust your height for water flow to pass skimming right under the second plate going inmediately up from AV plate, that's the sweet height for any Tohatsu engine. Seems you have to lower the engine a bit, remove shim and test as suggested and check flow height again and report back your findings.

Happy Boating

It's a short shaft. With motor sitting on the stock transom the water is going just under the TOP plate. If the water deflection plate is the middle plate I need to RAISE the motor to go under that plate. BUT I only have enough transom to raise it 3/4 of an inch, so it will never be high enough. Guess I will play with it and get back.
