Does anyone know if the Saturn inflatables are good? One person has one at my marina and has had it for 4 years with no problems

They are selling really good and most of they popular models are out of stock. I guess that say it. Plus, they do have dealers/repair stations at some places. Check if there is one near your place and decide.

I've had the 15' model for 1.5 years now. I run it with a 4 stroke Suzuki 25 hp. Solid boat. My typical loadout is three divers with six tanks. I highly recommend the aluminum floor. I've had it out in a storm of 6-8+ waves (with above loadout) and it got us home. I take it out every two to three weeks and have no regrets.

I've had the SD360 for over 3 years now, it came with the aluminum floor which I used once, no problem with the floor but I prefer to make my own decks from closed cell foam, much lighter and way more comfortable.

A little tip re the wood or aluminum floors if you decide to run with them, you can make the boat more comfortable, less slippy/easier to stand on, and protect the wood or aluminum from tanks or other stuff by covering the deck with either the thin rubber runners or {better still} the 3/8ths foam rubber runners that you can buy by the linear ft from hardware stores, I did a little write up on that on the link below...

I run my boat with a Mariner 9.9 Four Stroke and it goes fast enough to get me back into sheltered waters when the ocean starts acting up...

Anyway, as to the boat itself, I have had a zodiac a few years ago and excepting for the that one being white and the SD360 being red I see no difference in quality of the boat or the fittings on it and no difference at all in how the boat handles on the ocean or on the huge lakes here in Nova Scotia, Canada.

There's no way I'd ever pay Zodiac what they are asking for their boats these days. I'm not saying that there aren't other inflatables better than the Saturn, or better deals available, none that I'm aware of though.

I'd have no reservations at all in recommending a Saturn to you...

Well made and cheap is what I am seeking. Expensive does not always mean high quality. Cheap does not always mean junk. Value is where the quality is good for the cost.

are these boats good for ocean fishing?

Are good for whatever purposes you like, just be aware of hooks  while fishing as in any other brand inflatables.

Re: Saturn inflatables

I recently had my boat bump into some sharp stuff under the public ramp dock during low tide. The conical portion of the pontoon went below at an angle in such a way that the heavy rub rail coundn't do it's job protecting. It was punctured with a .25" long slice. The repair job took preparation but was was simple and solid. This was my first puncture experience. Although I have never fished out of my boat before, I had considered it. I will not do it now.

It was a good learning experience. I'm glad it happened at the dock instead of 1.5 miles out. That being said, it really wasn't that big of a deal. If a small puncture occurs above the water line, it's pretty easy to cover it with your finger while you limp back home. I now keep a roll of duct tape on board.

I wouldn't be worried about fish hooks. I fish out of my cheapo Saturn all the time and I've snagged the fabric pretty good before, but never has it gone all the way through. For the Hypalon owners out there, you may as well be in a steel hulled boat when it comes to hooks and such. It's hard to even get the point to dig into the fabric much less puncture it.

Although hypalon has a softer skin fabric more hook friendly than pvc, it's not kevlar, will puncture & cut easily, that's because in order to make hyp sibs/ribs cheaper, the material employed is just 0.8-0.9 mm gauge. Most hypalon low end & medium size boats are made with these gauges, the larger more expensive ones thicker and the military Rambo type much thicker.

I have had my Saturn SD 365 for 12 days. It has been sitting in my garage never used. It looses about 25% of its air over a 4 day period in the left air chamber. I have soaped all seams & valves. Can't find the leak. Waiting for Boats to Go to make a decision.

Inflate to 3.5-4.00 psi with gauge and water soap again very slowly. Might be a fabric micropore issue.

I am going to send it back for a full refund. I have only had the boat for 2 weeks.

You might consider a Mercury inflatable. Better quality control for the most part and some 5000 dealer service points in the U.S....Most of those dealers have no idea how to repair an inflatable, but they do avoid you having to ship anything.

I still think to get a inflatable for next fishing season and I saw those on Youtube. They cost very low even for a 12' that can hold up to a 30HP!

Are they comparable to Zoom by Zodiac?
