Re: Savannah area..
The overall boating locally in the Savannah area is all tidal controlled rivers, mostly brackish to salt water, the Ogeechee River is fresh water for a ways then meets with salt water. You can boat in places at high tide that are high and dry at low tide. There are beaches on the inside of the barrier islands, there are some areas in the rivers that as the water goes out that you can use for a beach, just have to make sure you don't let the boat get beached while you are on the beach, this holds true for all of the beaches on the outgoing tide. The Savannah River is a shipping channel, also some of the rivers are part of the ICW, so you will need to watch out for larger boats making large wakes, this is not a major issue just something you learn to watch for. Get charts of the area and study them, get a GPS with a chip for the waters here, take it easy until you learn how to run the waters here, around any turn there could be a sand or mud bar just waiting to catch you.
Since you are from North Ga I take it you boat on the lakes there with little to no current, in the rivers here when the tide is flowing through the half tide range the current gets real strong, 5 to 6 miles per hour at it peak, so you may need to change anchors and rode, plan on anything from mud to hard sand bottom, anywhere from just barely covered with water to as much a 50 feet deep.
We have some great boating, fishing, skiing, tubing whatever waters here so come on down and enjoy.
