You said it stopped blowing air after two hours and came back after 15 minutes of being off? (I think I remember seeing that) I think he probably is right in what he did...This is going to sound ridiculous but the two ways units freeze make different kinds of ice on a coil...The low airflow freeze up will make a hard ice cube looking freeze...The low on refrigerant freeze will look like powdery snow...It's kinda weird how it works...A trained AC guy can tell the difference right away...

PS The "I added a pound of two of refrigerant" is a catch all diagnosis usually...Which means "I have no idea whats wrong, but I need to charge something and get out ASAP"

JB,

You "frosted up", As mentioned.

I went through TX (Houston) on Sunday. The humidity was so high that my reading glasses fogged up in an air conditioned SWA 737 while we were sitting at the gate. The Captain mentioned that the APU unit could not match that humidity and it was uncomfortable. Ya, we knew.
:(

The captain also said that the Storm Cell essentially covered Texas. We had quite a light show (T-Storms) as we flew over them on our way to PHX. The storms had been building for days, humidity included.

No "ghost's" visited me. But, I do have issues with A/C., even in AZ

I'm "old school" like JB. You'd be surprised how effective an EXHAUST FAN can be. I chuckle at how few get that concept. Most want to blow air IN.;)

I have one vent, in the family room, that delivers-NOTHING-on occasion. I THINK I have a flex tube that is collapsing. I'm thinking of adding one of those mini A/C wall units. The ones with the compressor outside. Another $4 large.

However, I do get to replace one of my two A/C units to the tune of $8 large-next week. I expect to replace the other one, within a year or two. Oh joy. I'm looking at a huge discount for doing both the mini and the upstairs unit.

Not to mention the water heater is looking very sad. That, I can do myself.;)

Geez, I thought boats were expensive.

Just for perspective sake...You are looking at 12k for one system and adding a minisplit?

I just replaced both split systems in my house with 14 seer carrier systems...Total cash out of pocket including a helper for 10 hours was $2200...I live in a 3700 sq/ft two story in AZ...75% of the cost is profit margin and labor...I'm sure the boat industry is the same...$475 to pull and grease a drive?
